On the 27th November 2025, I had the privilege, in my capacity as the National President of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), to speak at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, largely on youth participation in the agricultural value chain.

I seized the opportunity to emphasize the importance of food security and how it has become a critical measure of the resilience of nations in our unstable global geopolitical space.

I touched on the need for graduate research to focus on strengthening the value chain through financial models, innovations that reduce post-harvest losses, improved storage mechanisms, and legal research that promotes easy access to land for young people venturing into the agricultural industry.

I also emphasized the need for us, as young people, to form partnerships to take advantage of the opportunities within the agricultural value chain.

In addition, I called on my colleagues to support the government’s fight against galamsey, as this has positive externalities that promote our participation in the agricultural sector and safeguard the collective health of the nation.

I thank the UPSA local chapter of GRASAG and AASU for this insightful programme and wish all participants well as they continue to share their knowledge and insights from the programme with others.
